Ventura Citrus Farmers Cope with Quarantine
January 12, 2011, Ventura, Ca – Citrus harvest had just started in Ventura County when a quarantine was announced after the discovery of two Asian citrus psyllids in two different locations about 20 miles apart. Lemons are the main citrus crop in Ventura County, but there are a number of acres of mandarins and oranges, as well.
Farm Bureau of Ventura County President Leslie Leavens-Crowe said mandarin growers were starting harvest, and that the quarantine will be “a big concern for them.” She added that rainy weather had curtailed harvests, but the arrival of the psyllid created additional problems. [Link To Full Article]
